Welcome to
Mjonøy! Cabins, bakery, cafe, banqueting room, course/conference facilities and exhibition hall combined! Mjonøy is located: - in a beautiful forest along the Klevastøyl river - in the middle of the Vinje Cultural Area - close to highway 134, halfway between Oslo and Haugesund Mjonøy is perfect for: - groups (who wish to have more than just food) - hikers - fishermen - people interested in art and culture - parties (weddings, birthdays etc.) - courses and seminars Rental cabins We have unusual cabins for hire. The cabins were originally old log buildings located on farms in the district; the buildings were dismantled, moved to Mjonøy and set up again for use as cabins by Alv Negarden in the 50's and 60's. Here you'll find buildings previously used as storehouses as well as an old barn. In the building "Eldhuset" (i.e. "the cookhouse") you'll receive keys to your cabin, you can buy a fishing license and we will assist you with any other services you require as a cabin guest. Bakery Our bakery, "Kringlegarden", is equipped with a large woodburning stone oven. We have a good selection of fresh baked goods: whole wheat bread, white bread, rolls, cinnamon buns and pastries. In the summer, the bakery is in daily operation; the rest of the year, baking can be ordered. Tailor-made banquets Our kitchen has the capacity to handle parties of up to 60 guests. In addition to the food, we can help to arrange for entertainment and dance music. Contact us and we'll put together just what you're looking for! Handicrafts In connection with the exhibition, there are both handicraft and cultural activities. Here you may take advantage of the opportunity to learn a handicraft or buy hand-crafted articles and art of high quality made in Vinje and the surrounding area. Examples: Knives, knitwear and woodcarving. Stampa ("The stamping mill") In the old days each community had its own stamping mill; these however are all gone now. We are therefore very proud to have a stamping mill at Mjonøy! The mill is driven by waterpower and located by the Klevastøyl river, which runs past Mjonøy. The mill was set up in 1999 by Vinje handverkslag ("handicraft organization") and Arne Skevik; it is used to mill homespun (cloth). Courses and other activities At Mjonøy, there is activity all year round. We arrange a wide variety of courses: food and wine appreciation, Norwegian folk singing, dancing, cheese making and baking. Mjonøy is also used by other organizations for courses and seminars. Mjonøy is well-suited for this as we have both meeting room, kitchen and accommodations. Exhibition The exhibition at Mjonøy lasts all summer long. The summer exhibition is put together by Vinje handverkslag, and presents mainly artists with connections to Vinje and West Telemark. Henrik Sørensen and Harald Kihle took the initiative to create the first Vinje Exhibition in cooperation with local artists. Since then, the Vinje Exhibition has become one of the most important summer exhibitions in Telemark with regard to pictorial art, sculpture and arts and crafts. The summer exhibition at Mjonøy shows works by both local and well-known established artists. Welcome to Mjonøy! Millenium site in Vinje |
